Habsita Mahamat Abakar, a 2016 Mandela Washington Fellow and IVLP alumna, visited the hospital of Notre Dame des Apôtres in N’Djamena on December 23, 2016. She delivered medications and medical supplies including syringes, needles, tongue depressors, compresses, cotton and other materials. This donation was made possible thanks to contacts she met in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, during her Mandela Washington Fellowship. The Americans dedicated their time and money to collect the materials and ship them to N’Djamena. Habsita said that the aim of her visit to the hospital was to bring a smile to patients during Christmas. The non-profit hospital treats many women and children, and is especially concerned with malnutrition.
