American Ambassador James Knight met with community leaders and social engineers from four Chadian NGOs and communal associations on September 15 at the U.S. Embassy for an awards signing ceremony. The four civic organizations — the Women of Abeche Union, the Women’s Association of Al Nadj in Moa, the Djounounan Group of Sanodjo, and the Guera Fekirna NGO — received African Development grants totaling altogether nearly $45,000 (22,000,000 CFA).
The awards will be used for the purchase of income-generating equipment (peanut oil press, flour mill) or to cover start-up expenses for setting up bee hives and planting Mopopaja trees for the production of honey and karaya gum.
Ambassador Knight noted these projects would improve the daily lives of villagers and expressed his great satisfaction in being able to support their good work. In 2014 alone, the US Embassy has awarded 17 grants to Chadian NGOs and community associations worth $180,000 (90,000,000 FCFA).
