It’s an honor to meet with President Deby and other senior leaders of the government of Chad on my fourth trip to this beautiful country. I am grateful for the warm welcome. The visit provides an important opportunity for us to continue discussions about common defense and security concerns, as well as an opportunity for me to meet with members of the U.S. Embassy staff.
Chad is an important and valuable partner of the U.S. and plays a leading role in combatting Boko Haram and other violent extremist organizations.
Chad has concluded a two-year term of service as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and is now providing the Chairman’s position to the African Union. I salute Chad’s increasing leadership role not only within the region, but on the continent and in the international community.
The partnership we have with Chad is an important one and I look forward to only strengthening our relationship in the future.
