AFRICOM Deputy Chief Commander Visits Chad; Underscores Security Partnership

Ambassador Alexander M. Laskaris, U.S. Africa Command Deputy to the Commander for Civil-Military Engagement, arrived in Chad today for discussions with senior officials.   A meeting with Prime Minister Albert Pahimi Padacké is scheduled to be the highlight of his visit.

Ambassador Laskaris’s first visit to Chad as Deputy to AFRICOM’s Commander will allow him an opportunity to discuss defense, security and political-military issues with senior officials.

In his meeting with Prime Minister Padacke, Laskaris is expected to discuss their current efforts against violent extremist organizations, Chad’s support of the MNJTF, and AFRICOM’s work with the Government of Chad on issues of mutual concern.

“Our nations are working together to build a better future, not just in Chad, but across the entire region,” said Laskaris. “Through a strong partnership, our countries are better able to combat the root causes of terrorism and promote peace and stability.

“I and the rest of U.S. Africa’s Command staff, working with Ambassador Knight, look forward to exploring future security cooperation with Chad,” he said.
