Ambassador James Knight accompanied Chad’s Health Ministry and Red Cross officials to an island in Lake Chad to help draw attention to the April 23 launching of African Vaccination Week.  The ceremony marking this event was held in Kinasserom, a fishing village where Chadians mix with populations from neighboring Cameroon and Nigeria.  Local administrative and traditional authorities from the Lake Chad Region also participated in the event which drew a crowd of several thousand onlookers.  The visiting delegation, which included several other Embassy officers, was welcomed with a presentation of local dances and traditional flute-playing.  Ambassador Knight and the Health Ministry Secretary General both administered vaccines to infants.  The event was covered by local media and was televised on national television.
