On February 4, Chargé d’Affaires Jessica Davis Ba chaired the launching ceremony for African American History Month, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Handicrafts.  Celebrated each year in February, the 2020 edition theme is “African-Americans and the Right to Vote” to honor the 150th anniversary of the Fifteenth Amendment, which guaranteed the right of Black Americans to vote and the centenary of the Nineteenth Amendment, which granted women the right to vote.  The event featured frank dialogue with the audience of civil society leaders, religious leaders, students and media.  The Chargé invited all to attend the activities sponsored by the Embassy to celebrate African American History Month throughout February.
