Chargé d’Affaires Visit to High Islamic Council Reinforces Shared Values

Chargé d’Affaires Rick Bell called on the President of the High Islamic Council, Sheik Dr. Mahamat Khatir Issa, on October 24. Chargé Bell and Sheik Mahamat Issa discussed the importance of dialogue and tolerance in diverse societies such as the United States and Chad, and Sheik Mahamat Issa described the Council’s engagement with leaders of the Catholic and Protestant communities and its efforts to find solutions to the ongoing social and economic challenges in Chad. They also discussed the cooperation between the Embassy and the High Islamic Council, including exchange programs and education.

Chargé Bell presented Sheik Mahamat Issa with copies of Arabic translations of two books: Interfaith Dialogue and Peacebuilding and A New Religious America: How a “Christian Country” Has Become the World’s Most Religiously Diverse Nation.
