Security Alert – Demonstration in N’Djamena, Chad

 Location: N’Djamena, Chad

 Event: The U.S. Embassy in N’Djamena advises U.S. citizens that the Government of Chad has announced a curfew is in place from 6:00pm until 6:00am.

Protests and violence may continue throughout the city. U.S. embassy personnel have been advised to temporarily shelter in place.

 There are reports that local police have used tear gas and live fire to disperse protesters in N’Djamena. There are at least two dead and thirty injured in the ongoing demonstrations. Demonstrators have been reported to be burning tires and overturning vehicles.

The Embassy will continue to evaluate the security situation surrounding the demonstrations and provide updates as appropriate.

· Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place.
