Embassy Supports Local Democracy, Entrepreneurship and Sanitation Initiatives

U.S. Embassy N’Djamena Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Richard Bell signed ten grants worth $665,000 (approximately 360 million CFA) on September 27 with Chadian civil society organizations. The grants, funded through the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Program and the Julia Taft Refugee Fund, provide support for local initiatives including support for the electoral process, agricultural development, entrepreneurship, and sanitation.

In his remarks, Chargé Bell emphasized the importance of grass-roots involvement, saying “The engagement of citizens who organize themselves to advance their common interests is an essential factor in the success of any society that would be free.”
