*** As of 12:01 a.m. EDT June 12, 2022, the CDC order requiring all persons aged two and above to show a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before boarding a flight to the United States, is rescinded. Starting at 12:01 a.m. EDT on June 12, 2022, the CDC will no longer order air passengers to show a negative COVID-19 test result, or show documentation of recovery from COVID-19, prior to boarding a flight to the United States. Of note, CDC’s Order requiring proof of vaccination for non-U.S. citizen nonimmigrants to travel to the United States is still in effect. Country-Specific Information
Chad has 7,420 confirmed cases and 193 deaths attributed to COVID-19 within its borders as of June 13, 2022.
Schools, universities, churches, mosques, markets, restaurants, and bars are open. There is no nationwide curfew.
Prevention measures and social distancing should be respected. The government of Chad has made mask wearing compulsory.
COVID-19 Testing
- Are either PCR or antigen tests available for U.S. citizens in Chad? Yes, in N’Djamena.
- COVID tests can be obtained at the Laboratoire des Grandes Epidémies or at one of the Chadian hospitals entitled to carry out the PCR test. In order to get the test taken at the Laboratoire, you will be directed first to l’Hopital General de Reference to pay, where you must show your passport and have cash (preferably exact change). The PCR test costs 15,000 FCFA (approximately USD $30) for vaccinated and 40, 000 FCFA (approximately USD $70) for unvaccinated travelers.
- The test result is typically printed, and the hard copy is available the next day if not later the same day.
- You should plan ahead, as it will be more difficult to find a test site on short notice or on the weekend.

- Has the government of Chad approved a COVID-19 vaccine for use? Yes.
- Are vaccines available in Chad for U.S. citizens to receive? Yes.

- Vaccine sites include: l’Hôpital de la Renaissance, CHU Référence Nationale, CHU de la Mère et de l’Enfant, le CHU Bon Samaritan, l’Hôpital de l’Amitié Tchado-Chine, l’Hôpital d’Instruction Militaire, l’Hôpital Provincial de Farcha, et le Centre International de Vaccination.
- We are informed that prospective vaccine recipients should arrive to a vaccine site with a photo identification and two (2) photos.
- Visit the FDA’s website to learn more about FDA-approved vaccines in the United States.
- The U.S. Government does not plan to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to private U.S. citizens overseas. Please inquire directly with the Chadian government for more information about COVID-19 vaccination opportunities in Chad.
Entry and Exit Requirements
- Are U.S. citizens permitted to enter? Yes.
- Is a negative COVID-19 test (PCR and/or serology) required for entry? Vaccinated travelers in possession of a valid vaccine card do not require a negative COVID-19 test for entry. For unvaccinated travelers, a negative PCR COVID-19 test result taken within 96 hours prior to arrival is required for all arriving travelers 12 years of age and older.
- Are health screening procedures in place at airports and other ports of entry? Yes.
- Departing passengers must comply with the entry requirements of their country of destination, which may include presentation of a negative PCR COVID-19 test conducted by Laboratoire des Grandes Epidémies or at one of the Chadian hospitals entitled to carry out the PCR test upon departure. The PCR test costs 15,000 FCFA (approximately USD $30) for vaccinated and 40, 000 FCFA (approximately USD $70) for unvaccinated travelers.
- Passengers under the age of 12 are not subject to the above rules.
- Visas must be extended at the immigration office in the commissariat central, and there are no automatic extensions. Travelers are advised to renew their visas before the expiration dates.
Movement Restrictions
- Is a curfew in place? No.
- Are there restrictions on intercity or interstate travel? No.

Fines for Non-Compliance
- A 2,000 FCFA (approximately USD $4) fine and/or 15 days in prison are possible for non-compliance with mask requirements.
Consular Operations
The Consular Section at the U.S. Embassy in N’djamena accepts regular American Citizen Services appointments. The section is open for emergency American Citizen Services, and emergency appointment requests can be sent to NdjamenaACS@state.gov.
The Consular Section accepts regular non-immigrant visa appointments.
