Generally cash in advance of treatment is demanded. It is highly recommended that membership in an overseas medical insurance provider be obtained prior to arrival in N’Djamena. Medical Insurance and Providers:
International SOS and EuropAssistance are the only two services in Chad that provide medevac services and offer an international standard of care. Both require advance membership sign-up online prior to treatment. It is recommended that U.S. citizens purchase overseas health insurance and medevac insurance prior to arrival in Chad.

Mortuary Services and Repatriation of Remains:
Mortuary services are provided by Service de la Morgue de l’HGRN, at L’Hôpital General, in N’Djamena. Mortuary services in N’Djamena can provide general embalming and holding of a corpse for several days while funeral preparations are being made, prices are below. Please note that should you require the assistance of the morgue, you should first make payment for services at the Hôpital General de Réference and then provide the receipt to the Morgue.
Morgue Fees are as follows for storing the remains:
- 1-3 days: 10,000 CFA
- 4-7 days: 15,000 CFA
- 8+ days: 25, 000 CFA
If you require a coffin for the repatriation of a deceased family member, please coordinate with your insurance company on how best to locate such items in Chad. Coffins are not readily available but may be provided by EuropAssistance or ISOS, for members only and when available. Air France can repatriate remains of family members; please contact the airlines’ office for rates, flight schedules, and any restrictions.
