Routine Notice – August 11
Location: N’Djamena, Chad
Event: On Friday, August 11th, a military parade is planned at Place de La Nation in celebration of Chadian Independence Day. This is an annual event. Expect road closures in the vicinity, increased host nation security presence from early morning until the afternoon, and large gatherings of people at or around Place de la Nation. Note: Chadian military and security forces continue to conduct rehearsals for the parade. Historically, in the days preceding the parade, there have been military vehicles staged in Klemat.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid areas where large crowds are gathering.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings and demonstrations.
- Seek shelter if gunfire occurs.
- Always carry proof or a copy of your legal presence in Chad, such as a U.S. passport with visa, or a residency card, and any required Chadian government travel permissions.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Keep a low profile.
- Review your passport expiration date and consider making an appointment to review your passport if necessary.
- Have a personal emergency action plan.
