Message for U.S. Citizens: Constitutional Referendum Vote

On Sunday, December 17th, the Transitional Government of Chad will hold a constitutional referendum vote.  Voting hours on Sunday are from 0600 until 1800. There is expected to be a notable increased presence of host nation security personnel. Large gatherings at polling locations and throughout N’Djamena may materialize.

Embassy will continue to evaluate the security situation preceding, during, and immediately following the vote and provide updates as appropriate.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings and demonstrations.
  • Seek shelter when gunfire is taking place.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Keep a low profile.
