essage for U.S. Citizens:Constitutional Referendum Vote Update

Location: N’Djamena, Chad

As previously indicated, on Sunday, December 17th, the Transitional Government of Chad (GOC) will hold a constitutional referendum vote. Voting hours are Sunday from 0600 until 1800. Throughout the weekend, expect a notable increase of host nation security personnel with the potential for large public gatherings and protests throughout N’Djamena.

Embassy will continue to evaluate the security situation preceding, during, and immediately following the vote and provide updates as appropriate.

Actions to Take:

  • U.S. citizens are reminded that demonstrations that may start peacefully have the potential to turn violent with little to no warning, and they are advised to avoid large gatherings, protests, and affected areas.
  • Avoid crowds and demonstrations.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Review your personal security plans.
  • Keep a low profile.
