Message for U.S. Citizens: Holiday Closures, August 8 and 11

The U.S. Embassy in N’Djamena informs U.S. citizens that the Embassy and the Consular Section will be closed for routine services on August 8 and August 11, 2016; in observance of the Government of Chad’s Presidential Inauguration events and the Chadian National Independence Day.

For emergency services, U.S. Citizens should call our 24/7 phone line +235 66 62 21 00 or +235 22 51 70 09.

The U.S. Embassy also reminds U.S. Citizens to exercise general security awareness during next week’s inaugural events and the possibility of increased military/police presence and checkpoints.  Remember to keep your doors locked and a copy of your passport/identification on your person.

The U.S. Embassy advises U.S. citizens to review and follow the guidance in the Travel Warning for Chad, and remain alert for potentially dangerous situations.  Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
