The United States supports the aspirations of the Chadian people for a democratic, prosperous, and peaceful future. U.S. Embassy N’Djamena underscored a commitment to the democratic process by deploying accredited election observers to witness the April 11 Presidential election process in Chad.
As electoral institutions tabulate the results, the Embassy calls on authorities to conduct the process in a transparent and equitable manner. We encourage all parties to address any grievances peacefully through Chad’s Constitution and laws, now and through to the final result certification by the Supreme Court on May 15. We call on the government to respect the right of Chad’s citizens to air any grievances openly, including through peaceful protest as guaranteed in Chad’s Constitution and the African Charter on Democracy, Elections, and Governance.
As a democratic partner of Chad, the United States remains committed to working together to achieve our mutual goals of peace, security, and improving the lives of our citizens.
