Statement on Protests in Chad on 27 April 2021
The United States condemns the violence and suppression of demonstrations that occurred today in Chad. We express our condolences to the friends and family of those who have lost their lives during the demonstrations. We urge the Transitional Military Council to respect the rule of law and human rights for all. The United States supports the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression as fundamental human rights and core democratic principles. The Chadian people deserve an inclusive national dialogue that delivers a peaceful and democratic transition to a civilian-led government.
