U.S. Assistance Saves Lives and Strengthens Communities in Lake Chad Basin

A team from USAID traveled to the Lake Chad region on October 10-14 to visit projects supported by USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance. The $5.35 million in funding provides primary health care, nutritional recovery and sanitation assistance, as well as livelihoods support, to populations who have been directly or indirectly affected by insecurity in the Lake Chad basin.

An estimated 142,000 displaced persons remain spread throughout multiple small communities east of the lake while 51,000 formerly displaced persons have returned to their villages.
