U.S. Donation and Training Strengthen Security on Lake Chad

As part of the United States Government’s continued partnership with the people of Chad in the fight against violent extremist organizations, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Richard Bell presented the Chadian Land Forces with a riverine capability package consisting of six new boats, six new trucks, two years’ worth of parts, and training worth $3 million. The November 16 ceremony took place in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Chadian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Brahim Seid Mahamat Bachar, at the Land Forces Command Headquarters in Farcha. In his remarks, Chargé Bell paid tribute to Chadian security forces for their courageous service and emphasized the link between security and economic activity.

This package is part of the Trans-Sahara Counterterrorism Partnership (TSCTP), the United States Government’s multi-year, multi-sector initiative to build the long-term capabilities of North and West African partners to contain, disrupt, and marginalize terrorist organizations and networks in the region funded the program.
