Faya (24 May 2017): U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Joyce Namde conducted an official visit to the City of Faya Largeau on 24 May. Upon arrival, she was greeted by the Governor of the Region, General N’GaroAhmadou Ahidjio and other dignitaries. The Deputy Chief of Mission then conducted an official handover of a new warehouse that will provide logistics support to the Special-Anti-Terrorism Group (SATG) operations in northern Chad. The Governor and the current SATG Commander in northern Chad, accepted the keys to the US-funded warehouse and were provided a tour of the new facility.
After departing the Base, Ms. Namde visited a local high school, the Lycee des Martyrs with the Governor and provided the school with a box of books from the Embassy. Governor N’Garo in remarks, used the presence of Ms. Namde to stress the importance of education to the students, especially the girls. He noted that the top two officials of the United States Government in Chad are women, showing that with education, women can do anything. The Governor also thanked the U.S. Embassy for donating the books to the school, noting that “books are worth a thousand bags of rice.”
At the conclusion of the visit, the Governor used the occasion to host a lunch for the Deputy Chief of Mission where they discussed current national and regional issues.
